What is a Doula?
A birth doula is a trained professional who provides emotional and physical support to a woman before, during and after childbirth. They offer continuous care, helping women feel empowered, informed and comfortable during the birthing process. Doulas do not provide medical care but focus on advocating for the mothers wishes and providing comfort measures such as message, breathing techniques and emotional reassurance. Their presence can lead to shorter labors, reduced need for medical interventions and increased satisfaction with the birthing experience.
Empowering Families
Prenatal Support
One prenatal appointment is provided, typically between 32-36 weeks. During this appointment we will go over important details and discuss any fears or concerns, labor positions and breathing techniques. I will help you finalize your birth plan and discuss how you would like to be supported. Unlimited text/email support for non-medical questions.
Birth Support
At 38 weeks, I will be on call for your birth. We will be in constant communication throughout the early stages of labor and I will arrive once labor becomes active. I will stay until the baby is born and provide postpartum support and assist with the first feeding.
Postpartum Support
One postpartum meeting to process the birth together. (Typically within the first 7-10 days) We will discuss the birth, newborn care and talk through any concerns. I will provide any postpartum resources that are needed.
About Me
My name is Kayla and I am a DONA trained birth doula. Ever since I was a young girl I’ve been fascinated by the miracle of birth. I have over 13 years of childcare experience, working with ages newborn - 14 years old. I began volunteering in my churches nursery 11 years ago and worked as a nanny for 4 years. I have experience with medicated and unmedicated birth and with hospital, birth center and home births.
I enjoy spending time with my family and friends. When I’m not on call I enjoy traveling the world and experiencing new cultures. I’m very involved in my church and still serve in the nursery.
As a birth doula with 13 years of experience in child care, I bring a unique and compassionate perspective to birth and the postpartum period. My background has given me a deep understanding of child development, the challenges new parents face, and the physical and emotional changes that follow birth. I provide calm, reassuring support during labor while creating a safe, nurturing environment for families. The name Birthing Kindness represents the heart of my work, offering care rooted in empathy, respect, and gentle support for every family’s unique journey. Having witnessed the strength and resilience of women firsthand, I understand the powerful impact knowledgeable, compassionate care can have. As a birth doula serving the Chicagoland area, I am dedicated to empowering families and honoring your story as we create a meaningful and supported birth experience together.

Testimonials from clients
“Kayla is fantastic!
This was our first baby, and we did this as a home birth through Gentle Birth Care. Kayla was very easy to get a hold of, and checked in with us throughout the pregnancy all the way through postpartum. She was very helpful answering questions over text and pointing us towards great resources and products that were a huge help late in the pregnancy, during labor, and postpartum.
She was professional and knowledgable in all our interactions, but was also very personable. With this being our first baby, we didn't know exactly what to expect during labor, but she managed to keep things calm and was a reassuring presence to both me and my husband. She was very practical and level-headed with her suggestions without being pushy or intrusive. She helped me find the best positions for managing labor that worked for me, and also utilized the shower/bath at key points during labor. Also had a "bag of tricks" that came in handy during the labor. Most importantly to us, she respected all of the decisions on our birth plan and worked with us with that goal in mind. My husband and I are extremely happy with how everything went with this birth, and Kayla was a huge part of that.
Strongly recommend Kayla for anyone looking for a doula!”
